The Butch Hiscox Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded to honor the memory of a man who taught, coached and inspired so many over the course of 30+ years. Whether it was in the classroom or on the golf course, Butch stressed that you "got out what you put in" - both in life and in the game of golf. Therefore the annual recipients of Butch Hiscox Memorial Scholarships are selected based on their diligence in the classroom, their participation on the FAHS golf team and other school/community activities, and their ability to answer "What is the most important thing you have learned from the game of golf?"

Daughter of Bruce and Carla Bertelsen of Fort Atkinson, Alyssa was a member of the FAHS golf team all four years of her high school career, earning a varsity letter each year. In 2006, she was named 'most improved player' and in 2007 she earned 'MVP' and second team All-Conference honors.
In response to what she's learned from the game of golf, Alyssa said "for every bad shot , [Coach Hiscox] always told me that I would get better and not to let one shot discourage me. . . It's funny how one small lesson can create so much more."
Alyssa was also a member of the FAHS marching band and achieved high honor roll each academic year. She plans to attend Iowa State University in the fall of 2008 to study engineering.

Son of Russ and Angie Nathan of Fort Atkinson, Lucas golfed for the Fort Blackhawks for four years, three on the varsity team. He also was a member of the football and intramural teams, while participating in several other school activities and maintaining high academic honors every year.
"Golf is a sport that can not only change who you are on the course, but it can also change who you are off the course," Lucas wrote in his scholarship application. "Life is all about choices . . . The important thing in making decisions is comparing the risks as well as the rewards to a certain situation. Golf is a perfect example of this idea."
Lucas will attend UW-Stevens Point to study wildlife biology in the fall of 2008.
